The Renaissance School Winter Holiday Performance
The Renaissance School held its annual Winter Performance on December 15, 2009 at the Shelburne Town Gymnasium. The theme of this year’s performance was “We Celebrate Community.”
The fourth and fifth grade class helped to connect the different components of the show through their performance of an old time radio show. The show featured news reports, corporate sponsorship (“Maxwell House, good to the last drop!”) and dramatizations of the flood of 1927.
The other classes offered songs and dances related to the community theme. The kindergarten constructed and wore masks of various farm animals with songs about farm life. The first and second grade students performed a square dance and sang songs about the extraordinary efforts of the people in our neighborhoods. The third grade sang and danced some traditional pioneer music. The sixth and seventh grade sang “We’re All In This Together” and performed a thrilling drum piece using five gallon buckets. They also joined other classes to provide additional vocal or instrumental support.
The evening concluded with the traditional All School Sing, where all the students and faculty joined together to perform four traditional holiday songs.
The performance was coordinated and prepared by the Music and Arts teachers, Kelly Becker and Ellie Tetrick. The music and drama teachers, along with the support of each child’s classroom teacher, created a performance that was both memorable and moving. Many members of the parent community also contributed time and materials to help make the evening a success.
Happy Holidays to everyone from The Renaissance School!
