Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at The Renaissance School
On Monday, January 18th, The Renaissance School Community celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with an in-school march, complete with protest songs, placards and speeches given by students and faculty to commemorate the Civil Rights movement and the late Reverend King.

Voices could be heard in the hallway, crying out "Freedom Now!" and "Equal Rights for All!" The students in each class made their own signs to carry during their march, such as "Listen to Martin!", "Don't Judge Us by Our Skin!" and "Say No to Segregation!"

The in-school march culminated in an all school gathering where students and faculty spoke out about injustices they saw in the world and their hopes and dreams for the world, inspired by their study of Dr. King's life and work.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was first observed in 1986, three years after being signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1983. The day was observed by all 50 states for the first time in 2000.
