The Renaissance School is pleased to announce an upcoming visit with Rafe Martin, master storyteller and well known author. Rafe Martin will be working with all of the students at The Renaissance School on Thursday, October 14. He will tell stories and work directly with children in developing their literacy skills.
The Heartworks and Renaissance Schools will also be hosting an evening with Rafe Martin that will be open to the general public. On Saturday, October 23, at 7:00 pm, Rafe will host a storytelling performance in the Coach Barn at Shelburne Farms until 8:30 pm.
Prior to Rafe’s visit to the school, students at The Renaissance School will conduct an interdisciplinary cross-cultural study of myths and stories throughout history. They will explore these stories and their themes in their studies in language arts, peace studies, physical education, visual and performing arts.
Rafe Martin is a well known and highly regarded author and storyteller. He has written over 20 books for children and young adults, and continues to entertain and educate throughout the United States and internationally. He has received numerous awards and accolades, including the Empire State Award in 2008 and the Lucile Micheels Pannell Award. He has appeared at many storytelling events and conferences around the country as a featured storyteller, including the National Storytelling Festival, the Joseph Campbell Foundation Festival of Myth and Folklore, the American Museum of Natural History, and been a Teller-in-Residence at the International Storytelling Center.
