Renaissance Students Present "ART IS GOOD FOOD"
On the evening of Thursday May 5th, students in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades from The Renaissance School presented their spring drama production titled, “Art is Good Food."
Created by the students along with their music and drama teacher, Kelly Becker, the performance this year was inspired by the Bread and Puppet Theater in Glover Vermont.
The students have been studying conservation and stewardship in their science classes with a focus on water, agriculture and forestry. These themes were incorporated into various skits highlighting issues related to misuse of our natural resources. Recycled and “found” materials were used to put together props and costumes.
The students studied improvisation and the methodology of the Bread and Puppet theater while in the creative part of their production. With the help of the school’s art teacher, Laura Poirier, they also created a puppet fashioned in the style of the Bread and Puppet Theater, which towered over them on the stage. Along with several songs and dances, the evening was a great success and enjoyed by both family and friends of the class.
