Renaissance Students view "Art at the Coach Barn"
Students in Eve’s class spent a glorious fall afternoon viewing beautiful works of art at the 24th Annual "Art at the Coach Barn" exhibit at Shelburne Farms. The children were welcomed to the impressive gallery space by Art Show staff member, Michelle Jackson, who briefly reviewed the rules for visiting a gallery space. The students were shown the paintings of Matt Pardue, chef of the Inn at Shelburne Farms, who uses his cake “frosting” techniques to add incredible dimension and texture to his work.
Following a self-guided tour of the rest of the exhibit, the children were treated to an impromptu discussion by Fairfax, Vermont artist Harald Aksdal, who graciously met with the students to talk about his artwork and the process he uses to create his intricate pen and ink tree images. The children were shown several prints during this special presentation, many with hidden angel images embedded into the design of the tree bark.
The children took notes and made small sketches of their favorite pieces throughout the exhibit, and will be sending notes to their favorite artists as a follow-up activity in art class.
