Heartworks Williston Preschool Children Visit Senior Citizens

senior-2.jpgPreschoolers from Heartworks in Williston visit throughout the school year with area senior citizens attending the VNA Adult Day Program located at Falcon Manor at Blair Park in Williston. The teachers schedule the visits with the VNA program directors and walk their classes to Falcon Manor, which is just around the corner from the Williston school. During their walks, the children learn about road safety as well as the gift of giving time to someone who may need a happy little smile to help brighten their day. The four and five year old children often make small cards and gifts to bring with them to give to their friends, and the seniors will occasionally also present the children with special treats during their heart-warming and very special visits. On one visit, the Heartworks children joined in with their senior friends for a rousing music class complete with accordion music and sing-alongs.

senior-1.jpgThe four Preschool Classes at Heartworks in Williston have incorporated these frequent visitations into their classroom curriculum as they learn about the many different people and places that make up a community. The school is very fortunate to be neighbors with such a rich and diverse population of older individuals who have been such gracious hosts to the children, sharing many stories and laughs with them during the year. One ninety year old resident was quite moved by the children’s visit and got a bit teary-eyed as she recalled her own teaching career from many years ago. We have all been so blessed by this wonderful addition to the Williston Heartworks school year, and we thank the VNA Adult Day Program for working with us to make possible such meaningful life experiences for our students.
