An Evening with Shakespeare at The Renaissance School
On Wednesday, May 9, students in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades at The Renaissance School staged a production titled "An Evening with Shakespeare." The production, directed by their Music and Drama teacher, Kelly Becker, was a compilation of work they had done over the semester.
The show centered on an abridged version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," with the third grade class opening the evening with a performance of "Brush Up Your Shakespeare" from the Broadway musical "Kiss Me Kate" and a dramatic exercise called "You Are Quoting Shakespeare." This was followed by the classic comedy, with the fourth, fifth and sixth grade students performing the main parts, with the third grade students performing alongside in chorus roles.

The show was a great success! The students did an excellent job learning to use and to work with the style of Shakespeare. The comical moments of a "A Midsummer Night's Dream" were well executed by its players.
The performance was staged before a full house of friends and family. The hard work of the students, as well as the support of the families, faculty and staff, was much in evidence throughout the evening. In the words of the show's director, Kelly Becker, "It takes a village to bring all the pieces together."
