For our Professional Development Day, we spent half of the day with six Shelburne Farms educators discussing sustainability and additional ways to further incorporate the sustainability “big ideas” into our classroom lessons. We then divided into groups by classroom teachers (K/1, 2/3, 4/5 grades) to work together out on the farm with two educators for each group to find additional ways to enhance the learning component of the curriculum as well as sharing curriculum ideas between the grades. It was a great time together, to learn more about the farm, as well as to have six farm educators dedicated to our partnership of being here on the Farm and incorporate additional farm learning into the lessons.
The second half of the day a certified speech language pathologist provided a workshop on speech-language development and specifically how it connects to auditory processing skills. She has worked in the business for over 25 years in the area of language and learning problems – as a lead diagnostician as well as a pathologist. It was another excellent workshop for the day, and we will be looking forward to additional workshops with this person.
