The Renaissance School Summer Enrichment Academy

The Renaissance School Summer Enrichment Academy is an academic day camp offering week long courses in particular fields of study with an experienced and enthusiastic instructor. reading-on-lawn.jpg Instructors are drawn from the faculty and staff of The Heartworks and Renaissance Schools as well as visiting teachers, all of whom specialize in the selected field of study. Students will enhance their talents and learn new skills in stimulating and nurturing environments. Much of the course work involves adventuring outside the classroom to capture the beauty of the summer season as well as to do practicial field work in each course of study. Coursework is limited to different themes, which are selected annually. Themes are generally chosen from the subject areas of science, drama, art and history.

June 25 - 29

The Farm Through a Lens
Discover Shelburne Farms through the lens of your digital camera! Through landscape pictures, close-up images and animal portraits, you will study the art of photography. Learn how to tell a story with a photograph and create your own album to take home. Requirement: a small digital camera.

Willy Wonka:
Come explore the exciting story of Charlie Bucket as he visits Willy Wonka’s amazing chocolate factory. While we explore the magical world created by Roald Dahl, we will have the opportunity to make our own candy confections. What a sweet week this will be!

July 9 - 13

O’ Pioneer:
Learn about and live the life of a pioneer on Shelburne Farms. Discover life without electricity, learn how to build shelter and cook outdoors, help with farm animals, make travel journals and tend the gardens just like the pioneers did so many years ago.

The Wonders of Water:
Water is perhaps the most amazing substance on Earth, essential for life and the only substance that can be found naturally as a solid, a liquid, and a gas on our planet. Explore the unique properties of water, how water makes life possible, the movement of water and how it shapes the land through handson indoor and outdoor experiments and explorations around the farm.

July 16 - 20

Nature Detectives:
Dig for treasures, explore Pirate’s Cove, investigate fossils, create scavenger hunts and learn to follow clues on a treasure map. Children will learn the art of solving mysteries usingShelburne Farms as their backdrop.

July 23—27

The Nature of Art:
Are you ready to see the environment in a whole new way? Inspired by British nature artist, Andy Goldsworthy, campers will explore natural art materials all around us. Your gift as an artist will be your sculptures, buildings and designs that celebrate beauty and the passage of time. Take home a sketchbook with photographs and drawings of your art.

Beautiful Biomes:
Each day, the children will learn about a different biome and the animals that live there. From the rainforest to the desert, the ocean to the prairie, let’s find out what makes these biomes special and how each one impacts the earth.
