Heartworks Shelburne Staff, Building B

The teaching faculty at the Heartworks, Renaissance, and Endeavour Schools have earned a certification in early or elementary education and/or have comparable educational training and experience. Throughout the year, teachers and directors participate in professional development programs, both on and off-site, aimed at expanding and improving their teaching skills and enhancing the mission of our Schools. We are dedicated to providing a program based on quality and consistency in all of the schools. All of our faculty and staff are asked to embrace a heartful and peaceful approach with children and to uphold the philosophies of the school.


Hilary Bickford

Co-Director and Teacher

Hilary joined Heartworks in 2010.  She graduated from Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  Hilary grew up in Williston and currently lives in Burlington.  In her free time she enjoys hiking, snowboarding, baking and spending time with family and friends.

Ashley McKinley

Co-Director and Teacher

Ashley has been a part of Heartworks community since 2007.  Prior to being named Co-director at Heartworks Shelburne she taught the four-year old class at Heartworks Burlington and served as a mentor teacher.  Before moving to Vermont and joining the Heartworks community she taught at Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich, CT where she was born and raised.  At Greenwich Country Day she coached middle and upper school field hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse and taught Pre-Kindergarten.  Ashley graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY with a Bachelor in Arts.  She earned a CDA in 2008 and Step 1 of her Director's Credential in 2016.  In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, traveling and spending time with her husband and daughters.  


 

Sherri Bird

Teacher

Sherri has been a teacher at Heartworks since 1991.  Prior to Sherri joining us, Heartworks offered classes for three years an older.  Sherri approached the founders about trying a two year old class, which was very well received and we've had ever since.  She is a certified nurses aid and also has a vocational day care certificate.  Sherri loves the children and all the new adventures that they bring.  Sherri lives in Hinesburg and has two grown daughters, both of whom are Heartworks alumni.

 

Sandra Ross

Assistant Teacher

Sandra has been with Heartworks since 2011. She attended the University of Arizona and moved to Vermont in 2005.  Working with children has been a lifelong dream.  She has mostly worked as an assistant teacher in the two year old classroom, but has also done some subbing.  She enjoys seeing the children grow throughout their years at Heartworks.  In her spare time Sandra enjoys movies, meditation, hiking and time with her family.


Kaylah Sharpe

Teacher

Prior to joining Heartworks in 2016, Kaylah graduated from Stonehill College in Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts in Early Education and Visual and Performing Arts.  Kaylah holds a Teaching License in both Vermont and Massachusetts.  In her free time she enjoys playing with her dog, crafting, spending time outdoors, and traveling.

 

Hunter Lockyer-Wills

Assistant Teacher

Hunter graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelors in Early Education and holds a Vermont's Teacher's License.  Before joining Heartworks in 2015, she worked in several different aged classrooms ranging from Infants to First Grade.  Hunter enjoys reading, cooking, gardening and spending time with her friends and family. 


 

Danielle Hall-Potvin

Teacher

Danielle joined Heartworks in 2015.  She graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Major Concentration in Human Development and Family Studies.  She has worked in several schools throughout the state of Vermont.  Aside from Danielle’s experience teaching children in a classroom setting, she has also coached the EDGE Swim Club for the past three years.  Outside of school Danielle enjoys drawing, swimming, and spending time with her family and friends.

 


Haley Staats

Teacher

Before becoming a member of the Heartworks community in 2016, Haley graduated Castleton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She holds her Vermont Teaching License and has two years of experience teaching early education. Haley grew up in Brookline, Vermont and has been living in Burlington for three years. She loves the outdoors and enjoys running, biking, skiing and spending time with family.

 


 

Amber Burritt

Teacher

Amber attended University of Vermont and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  She has been teaching since 2006 and has been at Heartworks since 2012.  Amber loves the connections she makes with each of the children and loves their natural curiosity and love for life.  She currently lives in Middleburry with her husband, their daughter, 2 dogs and cat. In her free time, Amber enjoys spending time outdoors with her friends and family and being crafty and creative.

 

 


Angela Hoguet

Teacher

Angela joined the Heartworks family in March of 2016.  She has more than five years experience working in early childhood classrooms.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Science in Early Childhood Studies.  She is passionate about creating a nurturing, creative, and engaging environment for the children in her class.  Angela believes in making every child in her class feel loved and respected.  She enjoys being outside, reading, and spending time with her husband and two young children.

 

 


Jayne Methot-Walker

Support Teacher

Jayne has a degree in Art Education and a B.S. from UVM in Animal Science.  She has worked as a certified Art Educator in Vermont for over twenty years.  She lives in Grand Isle with her retired husband.  They are both active members of Lyric Theatre in Burlington, and have two daughters.  One is a senior at UVM and the oldest lives in Portland, Oregon.  Jayne’s current hobby is learning the techniques of stand up comedy.

 

 

 


 

Lizzy Sheehan

Support Teacher

Lizzy has over 30 years of teaching experience both in the public and private sectors.  She holds Elementary Education Licenses in Massachusetts and Vermont.  The span of her teaching career has included working with young children from infancy all the way up through second graders.  In 2012, Lizzy received the Southeast Supervisory Union’s Early Childhood Educator of the Year Award.  She enjoys being outdoors, traveling, reading and spending lots of time with her precious granddaughter, Ella.

 


 

Heather Benton

STEAM and Substitute Teacher

Heather joined the Heartworks family in 2012.  She is licensed by the State of Vermont in Early Education, and is certified to teach through the third grade level. A native Vermonter, she attended the University of Vermont and earned a B.A. in psychology.  Heather resides in Essex Junction and enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, crafting and serving as a Deacon in her church.


Joanna May

Music Teacher

Joanna has been singing and making music for most of her 47 years as a performer and teacher, and for hospice clients in our community as a singer/director with the VNA's Noyana Singers. 

Joanna studied voice at Indiana University and received a Vermont teaching license and Master's degree in Integrating the Arts into Education from St. Michael's College. She's a certified Music Together teacher and center director. Her most recent musical endeavor was a week-long workshop learning to lead Bobby McFerrin-inspired Circle Songs. She joined Heartworks in 2015.

Joanna is the mom of 2 music-loving boys (ages 11 & 13).  Joanna's best musical influences were her parents, whose love of music made for a lot of singing in the car!
